Every good story has a beginning, and this one starts above a bar – in Guelph, Ontario. Some nights it was loud, and over time the house band setlists became routine background noise. But between the long nights and early mornings, that bar became a second home. The beer was cold, the food was on point, and the staff made you feel like family.

It wasn't long before work began on a full company re-brand, which led to a long-term relationship, friendship and design contract. As the first big stepping stone in what has become a successful and ongoing freelance career, Above the Bar was born.

The name "Above the Bar" plays on the idea of not only the location where the business began, but it also implies a higher level of something – whether it be design, quality of life or aspiring to explore, and be extraordinary. That is something held very close to us, and is expressed in all of our work.
